Kakamega residents have given their opinions following a deal sealed by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala and his predecessor Boni Khalwale.
Khalwale on Wednesday dropped his governorship ambitions in favour of Malala and opted to run for the Senate seat.
While some of the residents backed the move, others felt that the two had made a wrong move.
“Hatuwezi patia Malala kiti cha ugavana. Malala bado ni mtoto, hata kimaendeleo. Tutaangalia mtu mwingine ambaye sisi tutapatia kura,” one of the residents said.
This loosely translates as: "We will not vote for Malala as the governor. He is still young even development-wise. We will opt for another politician."
“If Khalwale has dropped his bid in running for the seat, he should go home and forget politics," another said.
Speaking at the Muliro grounds in Kakamega, Boniface Makari in an interview with TV47, said he will vote for Khalwale.
He said that he was leading in opinion polls and had the ability to lead them.
"I expected Cleophas would get the ticket because he is leading in the ground since he knows how to mobilize the people," Makari said.
Makari said that Khalwale had lost the ground.
He said that in terms of zoning, scheming and mobilisation, Malala was leading because he has engaged people well.
The reactions by residents come a day after Khalwale dropped his bid for the Kakamega governor race in favour of Malala.
He said he would now vie for the senate seat after the deal brokered at Deputy President William Ruto's Karen home on Wednesday.
