Just why are MCAs from a strategic ODM party stronghold ditching the outfit ahead of the nominations? The registrar of parties was on Thursday a beehive of activities as ward representatives from the county in Nyanza region submitted their resignation letters. Some of the MCAs are said to be rebelling against a predetermined line up being fronted by one of the governor aspirants in the county. There are reports that the MCAs are headed to one of the fringe Azimio La Umoja affiliate parties for fear of unfair nominations. It is that crazy season.

A senior politician was last week left with egg on his face after it emerged he was the only official of the political machine he has been using to sit on the high table where deals are being made. The politician is known for his aggressiveness when elections are around the corner. He surprised his colleagues and the audience at a political function when the secretaries of the outfits were called to stand behind their party leaders who were signing some crucial documents of a fledgling coalition. To the surprised of everyone, no one was there for the party leader who looked undisturbed; he then proceeded to sign both as party leader and secretary general.

Divisions have rocked police officers at a command within Nairobi area over the operation of bars and wine and spirit shops. Whereas some officers feel it's necessary to regulate some of the joints over excessive noise and other problems, some say there's no need, despite residents' complaints. Junior officers are accusing some or their seniors of being in the pockets of the bar owners and allowing them flout the rules. they want the police bosses at Vigilance House to intervene to ensure proper management. They claim some seniors brag that they have support from elsewhere. Let the police bosses visit the joints at night to witness because the issue has divided the command.

Was the secretary general of a national party setting up his boss for failure? The SG is said to have convinced the party leader to summon a key meeting with some politicians from one of his strongholds without due diligence. A furious party leader is said to have called the official and given him a stinging rebuke before hanging up on him. The meeting was cancelled at the last minute after it emerged that the platform could have turned out to be a political humiliation due to poor attendance. Is the party hierarchy suffering from myriad challenges even in its death throes. Time will tell.
