In Summary

  • Legally speaking, any discussion to have a coalition, Azimio will not be bound by the agreement among Oka leaders because it is not a party to it.
  • Oka will need to come to the table to negotiate and renegotiate.

Basically, they have signed their agreement as One Kenya alliance. That agreement is binding only on themselves.

It signifies what they each as parties of that agreement owe each other. And possibly, in the event they get into an agreement with another coalition, it means that whatever share they get from partnership with another coalition they will share all of them or they renegotiate their terms when they get into an agreement with another coalition.

It will mean then that when one coalition gets into agreement with another coalition it will be an agreement at the coalition level, which means that the spoils that will be received have to be shared as a coalition.

For example, if they partner with Azimio and Azimio said they will give Oka two cabinet slots,  it will be up to Oka to decide who amongst them will be the Cabinet Secretaries and how they are going to benefit from being part of that government.

But it does no mean, then, that all of them will be equal in whatever partnership with either Kenya Kwanza or Azimio.

Legally speaking, any discussion to have a coalition, Azimio will not be bound by the agreement among Oka leaders because it is not a party to it.

Oka will need to come to the table to negotiate and renegotiate. They have to negotiate with Azimio and renegotiate among themselves how to share the benefits that come with partnership with other coalition.

Actually, looking at the remarks by Kanu secretary general Nick Salat that Gideon and Kanu should move towards Azimio, and today we have seen Gideon signing, it means that the ground upon which Oka is standing may not be particularly stable because we are seeing members who are half-hearted.

We have also seen that they have been joined by MDG of David Ochieng’,  but what clout does MDG have politically or even Cyrus Jirongo who had no secretary general?

This is a coalition of individuals.

This tells you the kind of joke that Oka coalition is because we have also not seen Martha Karua’s party holding any rally. They are doing so well in press conferences.
