Mombasa health workers on Thursday evening suspended their strike after a court order in a case filed by the county government on Wednesday.

On March 6, the health workers went on strike paralysing all health services in public hospitals to demand their salary and remittance deduction payments.

Kenya Union Pharmacists Dentist union officials on Thursday met county officials and agreed to obey the court order.

KMPDU Mombasa branch chairperson Ahmad Mkuche said they had not received their February salaries and deductions from December last year.

He said their bare minimum was to receive all their dues before going back to work.

Mkuche said, county officials, were determined to pay the February salaries within 10 days and all the deductions within the same period.

However, he said the county government refused to put their promise in writing which put them in a hard spot.

“We were left with the option of following the court orders and being in defines of them will not attract court favour from the industrial court and from the judge who issued the order,” he said.

“We are a progressive union and we believe in the rule of law and constitutionalism, we cannot defy the court orders.”

Mkuche said KMPDU members will obey any court order that comes out trying to address these matters.

“On Thursday, with fellow sister unions, we wrote a suspension notice and in effect, we have suspended the strike as we wait for the matter to be addressed in court on March 23,” he said.

The KMPDU chairperson assured members they are focused on the matter and their legal team is on it and they will get what is rightfully theirs.

“We will get through all this mess and beckon on in a brighter future for ourselves and this nation,” Mkuche said.
