At this point, the President is not concentrating primarily on a region. He is concentrating on the entire country.
Unless we are talking about the political side of things. Some people from Mt Kenya are looking for direction.
There could be people within Jubilee who are looking for political direction, which has already been given because the President has said whom he is likely to support.
But in terms of development, the President cannot pigeonhole himself on a region. He stopped being what we call a regional kingpin to become the president of the entire nation.
His development agenda cuts across the entire country.
We have seen a lot of development in Nairobi. Nairobi is not Central. We have seen development in Kisumu. Kisumu is not Mt Kenya.
We have seen a lot of development in Mombasa – the standard gauge railway, the Dongo Kundu bypass and many others. We have seen a new port built in Lamu.
All these areas will have the mark of the President’s agenda.
I have heard people say he can tilt the political scales in Central Kenya, but at this point it could be too late in the day.
But, if not properly managed, it could happen in the way it happened with former President Daniel Moi.
There is just that thing that, you know, he has done his bit and should leave. And I don’t think the President is keen to play that kind of politics.
Honestly, in my opinion, I hold the view that he doesn’t want to play local politics.
His preferred person may be sold by another person but not to play the hard politics himself.
He can actually go to somebody and say this is the person I feel would more likely take my agenda for you people forward.
Like the BBI. He pursued the BBI because he believed it had much interest to cover the region which he represented, that is, Mt Kenya.
But he no longer wields that regionalised politics. No. He is the President of the entire nation and as such, he must be presidential.
