Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has announced he will soon make changes in his government following the exit of at least four high-ranking officials in his administration.
The officials resigned to contest for various political seats.
Dr Mutua, who convened a cabinet meeting at his Mavoko office, said he would make new appointments in his administration to fill the void left by the officials and ensure service delivery to the public continues without interruption.
“Due to the various resignations, I will be reorganizing my government to ensure efficient delivery of services and development. I will also be weeding out people who are lethargic and not serving the people of Machakos,” said Mutua.
Among the senior officials who have resigned from Machakos County government include Chief of Staff Mwengi Mutuse, who is eyeing the Kibwezi West parliamentary seat currently held by Patrick Musimba.
Health CEC Ancent Kituku also resigned to run for Kangundo parliamentary seat. He will face off with the incumbent, Fabian Muli and former MP Katatha Maweu, who has announced a political comeback.
Lazarus Kivuva, who was serving as CEC for Trade, Industrialization and Innovation, will be joining the crowded race for the Yatta parliamentary seat occupied by Charles Kilonzo. The seat has also attracted former legislator Francis Mwangangi, regional Knut executive secretary Kasimba Ngui and businessman Robert Basil.
Chief officer for Water, Irrigation, Environment and Natural Resources Jackson Muthini also tendered his resignation to vie for the Masinga parliamentary seat.
Muthini will square it out with the incumbent Joshua Mwalyo and former legislator Itwiku Mbai.
Mutua revealed that the office of the county secretary had also received numerous resignation letters from other officers within the Machakos government.
