Seven patients succumb to Covid as 2,336 test positive

A total of 4,347,094 people have been fully vaccinated against the virus.

Another 2,336 people have tested positive for coronavirus from a sample size of 10,558 tested in the last 24 hours.

The positivity rate is at 22.1 per cent.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said on Thursday through a statement that from the cases, 2,029 are Kenyans while 307 are foreigners, and that 1,183 are females and 1,153 are males.

 The youngest patient is a two-month-old child while the oldest is 104 years.

The total confirmed positive cases are now 306,686 and cumulative tests conducted are 3,076,181.

In terms of County distribution, Nairobi leads with 955 cases, Siaya 146, Nakuru 133, Nyeri 105, Uasin Gishu 96, Mombasa 73, Kakamega 73, Kiambu 61, Bomet 51, Makueni 48, Kericho 45, Kwale 45, Kilifi 44, Laikipia 44, Kajiado 40, Kisumu 39, Migori 33, Embu 32, Machakos 23, Kirinyaga 22, Nyandarua 22, Meru 21, Elgeyo Marakwet 21, and Tharaka Nithi 20.

Baringo 18, Trans Nzoia 17, Vihiga 16, Turkana 14, Isiolo 12, Homa Bay 11, Murang’a 10, Garissa 9, Busia 7, Nandi 6, Bungoma 5, Narok 5, West Pokot 4, Kisii 4, Taita Taveta 3, Wajir 2 and Lamu 1.

The CS said that seven people have succumbed to the virus, bringing the cumulative fatalities to 5,411.

Kagwe added that 1,759 patients have recovered from the disease, 1,699 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program and 60 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Total recoveries now stand at 261,067 of whom 211,347 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 49,720 are from various health facilities countrywide.

A total of 1,176 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 25,024 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Forty-four patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 23 of them on ventilatory support while 20 are on supplemental oxygen. One patient is under observation.

Another 317 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 280 of them are in the general wards. 37 patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination

As of January 5, 2022, a total of 10,356,914 vaccines had been administered across the country. Of these, 5,956,101 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 4,347,094.

Another 23,147 are doses administered to those between 15 to 18 years while 30,572 are booster doses.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 56.2 per cent.

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 16 per cent.
