Positivity rate at 1.6% as 75 test positive for Covid

Two patients have succumbed, pushing the cumulative fatalities to 5,337.

The Ministry of Health has said that a total of 7,678,464 vaccines had been administered in the country as of December 6.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said on Tuesday in a statement that from the figure, 4,676,556 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 3,001,908.

He said that the uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 57.2 per cent.

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 11 per cent.

Nairobi leads with 28.9 per cent of the population fully vaccinated followed by Nyeri 23.4 per cent, Kiambu 18.0 per cent, Laikipia 17.0per cent, Taita Taveta 13.9 per cent,

Murang’a 13.7 per cent, Uasin Gishu 13.5 per cent, Kirinyaga 12.5 per cent, Nyandarua 12.4 per cent, Kisumu 12.1 per cent, Nakuru 12.0 per cent, Kajiado 11.8 per cent, and Mombasa with 11.6 per cent.

Marsabit and Tana River are among the least with 2.7 per cent, Wajir, Turkana and West Pokot each with 2.4 per cent and Mandera at 2.2 per cent of the population fully vaccinated.

On the Covid-19 situation, the CS said that 75 people have tested positive from a sample size of 4,771 tested in the last 24 hours.

The positivity rate is now at 1.6 per cent.

From the cases 60 are Kenyans, while 15 are foreigners. Fifty are males and 25 are females.

The youngest is a 13-year-old while the oldest is 79 years.

The total confirmed positive cases are now 255,544 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,863,425.

On Tuesday, eight patients had recovered from the disease with five from the home-based isolation and care programme and 3 are from various health facilities countrywide.

The total recoveries now stand at 248,452 of whom 200,483 are from the home-based isolation and care programme, while 47,969 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Two patients have succumbed to the disease, pushing the cumulative fatalities to 5,337.

A total of 207 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 844 are under the home-based isolation and care programme. Two patients are in the Intensive Care Unit, two of whom are on ventilatory support.

Meanwhile, 52 patients are on supplemental oxygen, with 50 of them being in the general wards. Two patients are in the High Dependency Unit.
