Nyamira Senator Okong'o Omogeni has called upon the government to deal with the prison bosses over the recent escape of terror suspects from the Kamiti Maximum Prison.

Omogeni said the country is no longer safe if the Kamiti maximum prison can report escape of prisoners.

He spoke on Thursday in Nyamira during a meeting with tea farmers which was presided by Agriculture CS Peter Munya.

He said despite the arrests made on Wednesday, more action needs to be taken to the prison bosses to establish exactly what happened at Kamiti.

"We are calling upon our interior CS Fred Matiang'i and all the security agencies to get the root of what happened at the Kamiti prison," Omogeni noted.

He said there is no way the Kamiti facility would record such a case and attributed it to laxity from the bosses whom he said have failed in their duties hence action must be taken against them.

"We should not be fooled that in a prison like Kamiti, there is any way that prisoners can escape with the kind of security at the facility. There is more than meets the eye in the entire story we are being told," Omogeni noted.

The three convicts who were serving jail terms for terrorism-related crimes at Kamiti Maximum Prisons escaped from the prison leading to questions on how they managed to escape the highly guarded facility.

On Wednesday President Uhuru Kenyatta sacked Prison boss Wycliffe Ogallo who was later arrested and then released unconditionally, replacing him with Retired brigadier John Kibaso.

On Thursday, the three convicts were arrested and are back in jail.

Musharraf Abdalla Akhulunga a.k.a Zarkarawi, Mohammed Ali Abikar and Joseph Juma Odhiambo a.k.a Yusuf were headed for Somalia when they were recaptured in a village in Kitui.

They are expected to get extra charges of escaping from lawful custody.

They were airlifted back to Kamiti where a team of security officials led by interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and his ICT counterpart waited to receive them.
