The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has opened its television and radio studios to enhance their communication to the public.
Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Robert Kibochi Tuesday officially opened a newly-constructed Strategic Communications Office at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi, which will house the studios.
The new office block has a state-of-the-art fully-equipped television and radio studios for various productions that will enable a continuous flow of information to Kenyans and the wider audience, KDF said.
“KDF considers strategic communication as a vital activity that will support future military operations as well as the national interest,” said a statement from KDF.
The KDF communication department was established in 2009 as Public Affairs and has over time told KDF stories both in operations at in peacetime.
In 2021, the KDF command established Strategic Communication to be able to achieve communication objectives in the ever-changing threat environment.
During the ceremony, the CDF lauded the efforts of the strategic communications team office in informing and shaping the public opinion on KDF activities and engagements, noting that information is an instrument of power and KDF is committed to ensuring effective communication of all KDF operations.
REGIONAL HOSPITAL
Meanwhile, soldiers, their families and dependants from Eldoret Region and the wider Western Region will from June 2022 benefit from a Level IV proposed Eldoret Regional Hospital (ERH).
The groundbreaking ceremony for the ERH was presided over by Gen Kibochi.
The CDF informed soldiers and their families gathered at Moi Barracks Eldoret that building the 150-bed capacity hospital is inspired by the desire of the KDF command to bring closer high quality specialised medical care to the service personnel and their families.
"I understand you have been incurring huge costs and travelling far to the Defence Forces Memorial Hospital in Nairobi and to other private hospitals to seek specialised medical care. You need not worry now that you will be getting the same services here in Moi Barracks, once construction is completed," said the CDF.
KDF has been on a mission to upgrade its wares in all areas which require heavy financial muscles.
