Laikipia security designated area remains a no go zone for political meetings without police clearance, IG Hillary Mutyambai has said.
In a notice on Sunday, Mutyambai said such areas gazetted as disturbed with an ongoing multiagency operation and shall remain until called off.
“Attention is drawn to plans by some members of the public to conduct rallies including meetings in areas designated disturbed,” he said.
“It is therefore illegal and irresponsible to hold public rallies or meetings in contravention of the law."
Mutyambai said any contravention by a person or group of persons shall be met with full force of the law.
Interior CS Fred Matiang'i has created a new administrative sub county in Laikipia named Kirima to tackle insecurity in the area.
He announced this on a gazette notice dated September 9.
"...in an effort to enhance coordination of the functions of the National Government, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government establishes the following administrative unit as service delivery coordination unit..." he said.
This creation is expected to bring government and security agencies closer to the backwaters of Sipili and Ng'arua.
Matiang’i is in Laikipia county to review ongoing police operations there to flush out armed men terrorizing locals.
The security chiefs landed in the area early in the week as operations intensified to flush out gunmen on private ranches.
The armed men are accused of being the masterminds of at least 10 deaths among them three cops.
The attackers have been torching houses and other amenities including schools.
The team announced the government will offer food, water, blankets, matresses immediately and to assist affected families resettle.
They will also get iron sheets among other building materials to reconstruct their structures.
The CS said more political leaders are on the radar for instigating the attacks ahead of general elections.
