Selective application of law can plunge a country to chaos, a faction of church leaders
A section of church leaders have cautioned police against the selective application of the law as the country prepares for the 2022 elections.
The leaders led by the General Overseer of the Full Gospel Churches of Kenya Bishop David Macharia said police risk plunging the country into chaos because of selective application of the law.
Macharia said Kenyans want peace and that no one should interfere with the current harmonious relations among all Kenyans.
"The laws that we have in this country must be applied equally among all Kenyans irrespective of political, ethnic, or religious persuasions. Selective application of law can easily plunge the country into anarchy. We are all equal in this country," Bishop Macharia said.
Speaking at the Buruburu Full Gospel Church during the consecration of Bishop Isaac Kariuki as the regional overseer, Nairobi region, the leaders called for equal treatment of all Kenyans in accordance with the Constitution.
Deputy President William Ruto attended the function.
Macharia said Kenyans should not be coerced or intimidated on the nature of leaders to elect to various political seats come to the next general election.
“Let the people of this nation decide on their destiny. No one should decide for the people of Kenya. We all need peace and no one should disrupt our peaceful coexistence.”
He added that it was wrong for anyone to impose some issues on Kenyans in full disregard of the Constitution.
Ruto asked MPs to enact laws that are just, fair and promote equality among all Kenyans.
He said it is the responsibility of leaders to ensure the laws passed serve all Kenyans equally without discriminating or undermining the rights of any person.
“I ask church leaders not to worry about the situation of things in our country because God is fully in control,” Ruto said.
And while addressing members of the public in Buruburu town, Ruto said he was not scared by plans by some leaders to gang up against him ahead of 2022, saying he has the support of the hustler movement across the country.
“Let them unite and the hustler movement will face them. This time around, we have decided that the economic model will be from bottom-up aimed at transforming the lives of the majority of Kenyans, who are hustlers in this case.”
The DP was accompanied by MPs George Theuri (Embakasi West), Benjamin Gathiru (Embakasi Central), John Kiarie (Dagoretti South), Nixon Korir (Langata), Millicent Omanga (nominated), George Koimburi (Juja), Moses Mabonga (Bumula) and former MP Margaret Wanjiru.
