Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said that 523 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours from a sample size of 6,469 tested.

The positivity rate on Friday was 8.1 per cent.

From the cases, 503 are Kenyans while 20 are foreigners. 310 are males and 213 females.

The youngest is a two-week-old infant while the oldest is 99 years.

Total confirmed positive cases are now 185,060 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,970,001.

Eighty-six patients have recovered from the disease, 50 from various health facilities countrywide while 36 are from the Home-Based and Isolation Care program.

Total recoveries now stand at 126,680 out of which 91,550 are from the Home Based Care and Isolation program, while 35,130 are from various health facilities.

Kagwe said that 11 patients have succumbed to the disease, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility audit records on diverse dates in the months of April and June.

Also, 127 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 38 of whom are on ventilatory support and 54 on supplemental oxygen. 35 patients are under observation.

Another 170 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 155 of them in general wards and 15 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

Nairobi recorded 161 cases, Mombasa 39, Siaya 36, Kisumu 32, Uasin Gishu 30, Kisii 25, Kiambu 21, Kilifi 19, 2 Vihiga 19, Nakuru 14, Kakamega 13, Nyeri 13, Homa Bay 13, Busia 12, Kajiado 11, Laikipia, and 10.
