ODM leader Raila Odinga's sister Dr Wenwa Akinyi Odinga has been appointed as a member of the Kenya Medical Research Institute board.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe appointed her alongside Prof Timothy Mwololo Waema, Dr George Njoroge and Marstella Bahati Kahindi.

They will serve for three years from May 17.

The changes were gazetted on Friday.

In March, Kagwe appointed Prof Samuel Kariuki previously the director of research as the acting director general of Kemri.

He replaced Prof Yeri Kombe.

Odinga has served as a senior lecturer at the University of Nairobi since 2004 in the department of chemistry.
