Police are investigating an incident where a driver was found dead in his cabin and in a traffic jam along the Mai Mahiu-Nairobi Highway in the Mutarakwa area, Kiambu County.
The engine of the trailer that he was
driving was running when he was found unresponsive Sunday morning, police said.
The long-distance trailer was headed
for Nairobi from an unknown place when the incident happened, police said as they
identified the deceased as Patrick Tsuma Okuon, 55.
Other road users were concerned with the stalling of the trailer on the Mutarakwa-Mai Mahiu stretch and went to check on the driver when they found him unresponsive.
The lorry had stayed at
the scene for almost an hour, causing a huge traffic jam.
The road users informed the police of the incident, who arrived there and confirmed the man had died at the steering wheel.
He had engaged a neutral gear and left the engine running before he died. One of his feet was on the brakes, police who attended the scene said, adding it was by luck the incident did not happen in a slopy area.
Police said they found some medications in the driver's cabin and suspected to be an indicator that the driver was ailing from some health condition.
The body was removed to the mortuary
pending an autopsy, while the lorry was taken to the local police station,
police said.
Police said the relatives of the driver
had been informed of the incident to assist with the ongoing probe into the sudden
death.
Elsewhere, a man who was thought to
have died and was buried in a village in Chwele, Bungoma County, resurfaced at home, sending the area into panic.
And following the developments, police
exhumed the body from the grave and took it back to the mortuary pending
identification.
Locals in Lurende village had thought
the deceased was the owner of the compound and buried him. Days later,
resurfaced to the shock of the locals, police said.
This forced the locals to report the
matter to the police. Western police commander Issa Mohamud said his team moved to
court and obtained an order to exhume the body of an unknown person.
“There must have been a mix-up of the bodies, but we are working to solve the incident,” he said.
The exhumation took place on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
Police said they are working to solve the matter. This will include an identification process, which will involve possible relatives.
