A 13-year-old boy was allegedly shot in the leg by police when two groups clashed over land in Moi Ndabi, Naivasha.
The police had been called in to quell the dispute on Friday dawn. The boy was rushed to Naivasha Subcounty Hospital.
Six others were left nursing wounds after they were attacked using crude weapons.
Mother Purity Thatia said her son was shot and injured as police were arresting her husband over the clashes.
The shaken mother narrated how police stormed her house, beat up her family members and shot her son in the leg. She said police fled after members of the public intervened.
Speaking on the phone on Friday, Naivasha police boss Samuel Waweru said he was not aware of the shooting incident but promised to investigate.
Following the incident, tension was high in the village that is home to tens of the 1992 Enoospukia post-election violence victims.
Local leader Jane Wanjiru said the problem was caused by double allocation of the land.
She said one group was resettled on the land in 1992 but in 2009, another group was given allotment letters and they moved in.
“Since then, we have never known peace with all parties claiming ownership to this parcel of land. It is time the Ministry of Lands intervened,” she said.
Wanjiru accused some powerful persons of being behind the latest violence.
Village elder Daniel Kiritu urged the government to intervene and resolve the matter.
“We are living in fear due to threats by land grabbers but we shall not vacate this land,” he said.
