Two people died on Friday evening at the port of Mombasa after an accident occurred while they were installing fertilizer bagging equipment.

Kenya Ports Authority acting Managing Director Rashid Salim while confirming the incident said the two,  engineers from a private firm were working at Shed number 7 inside the port when the accident occurred.

“We regret to confirm that an accident occurred inside the port at shed number 7 involving engineers from a private firm were installing a fertilizer bagging equipment,” Salim said.

He said the incident had left five more people injured and rushed to Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Salim said KPA immediately teamed up with relevant authorities to establish the actual cause of the accident.
