SKIN PIGMENTATION

Skin of two Chinese doctors turned black after virus treatment

The treatments they received would have damaged their liver.

In Summary

• According to experts, it is a phenomenon due to the pigmentation of the skin and which has been observed in critical cases of Covid-19 who have suffered liver damage.

• However, as patients regain their good health, the liver can also recover and their complexion will then return to normal.

This Facebook post, which included an article published on a Senegalese site, states that Chinese doctors have become black after treatment for COVID-19 in the Wuhan central hospital.

According to the information relayed here, the latter, whose names are Yi Fan and Hu Weifeng, are colleagues of Doctor Li Wen Liang, who gave the alert on the coronavirus, before succumbing on February 7.

The treatments they received would have damaged their liver, which would then be the cause of the change in skin colour, according to Chinese doctors .

The Chinese media CGTN also shared the information on its Twitter account on April 18, taking care to specify that, according to experts, it is a phenomenon due to the pigmentation of the skin and which has been observed in critical cases of Covid-19 who have suffered liver damage due to the virus.

A Global Times article published on April 20 also mentions this thesis and states that this is a symptom of liver dysfunction.

The article informs in this case that despite the fact that patients can be saved, some of their organs may well be damaged - either by the virus itself or by treatment.

Here, it is the case of the liver and the strong pigmentation is observed at the level of the face, as the screen capture from this video of one of the doctors in question, posted by a Chinese media show on YouTube on April 18, 2020.

It can be clearly seen there that the hand of the person concerned did not undergo the same pigmentation as his face which became darker.

However, as patients regain their good health, the source explains, the liver can also recover and their complexion will then return to normal.

And indeed, in this new video from the same doctor posted this time on April 21 and capture of which is below, he already seems to have recovered his normal complexion on the face.

The phenomenon of skin pigmentation, therefore, occurred well in the two Chinese doctors Yi Fan and Hu Weifeng, following the treatment they received against COVID-19, but, temporarily.
