Nairobi county health professionals have issued a seven-day strike notice to the county government citing lack of promotion as promised by Governor Mike Sonko.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, Kenya Health Professionals Society (KHPS) secretary Brown Ashira said despite having several board meetings and signing agreements with the county management, they had not received their promotion letters.

“Our members have suffered psychological loss and damage and have felt discriminated against. We call our members to parade to City Hall after the expiry of the seven days to demand the promotion letter,” he said.

Acting Health CEC Mohammed Abdikadir did not respond to calls and text messages seeking a comment.

The health professionals had participated in a go-slow on November 11 last year that culminated in the governor’s executive directive that all county health workers be promoted one job group ahead.

Last November 15, Sonko struck a deal with health workers over their pending promotions and agreed to take letters for the first phase of promotion as the county factors in the next phase of promotion in the supplementary budget.

The county had set aside Sh130 million for the promotions in the current financial year.

Health workers in most parts of the country have been on and off strike over salary arrears.
