30,000 people to attend Jamhuri fete in Nyayo Stadium

The stadium has been renovated and upgraded to meet modern sports and conference demands.

Some 30,000 people are expected to attend tomorrow’s Jamhuri Day celebrations in Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi.

The event will be the first to held at the refurbished facility. The stadium has been renovated and upgraded to meet modern sports and conference demands.

On Tuesday, Interior PS Karanja Kibicho toured the facility. “The stage is set, and we expect 30,000 people to attend this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations,” he said.

Kibicho inspected preparations ahead of the celebrations. He was accompanied by Principal Secretaries Jerome Ochieng (ICT), Kirimi Kaberia (Sports) and Gordon Kihalangwa (Public Works), among other state officials.

“We also expect local and foreign guests,” Kibicho said.

The 55th Jamhuri Day celebrations will be attended by heads of states and government, envoys, artists, wananchi, politicians and professionals.

Jamhuri Day is observed on December 12 every year as the date Kenya obtained Independence from Britain. It is marked by festivities to celebrate the country’s rich cultural heritage, socioeconomic and political milestones.
