Expect more morning rains, forecast shows

Heavy rainfall is expected to continue pounding over several parts of the country, the latest forecast has shown.

Kenya Meteorological Department Director Stella Aura said heavy rainfall is likely to occur over parts of the Northwest, Northeast, Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Southeast Lowlands and the Coast.

Aura said counties of Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia,  Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet and Nandi are set to continue receiving rainfall as from today to Wednesday in the morning.

 

Others set to receive early morning rains include Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia, Aura said.

Aura said the temperatures will range from 10 degrees Celsius and 31 degrees Celsius.

Aura said in the counties of Turkana, West Pokot and Samburu, rains are expected to continue.

In West Pokot, 43 people have lost their lives as a result of a landslide.

Sixteen patients are still receiving treatments at Kapenguria County hospital following the Saturday incident.

According to the forecast, West Pokot is set to continue receiving rains in the morning until Wednesday.

The temperatures in the three counties will range from 26 degrees Celsius and 37degrees Celsius.

Morning rains will also pound the counties of Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka until Wednesday.

Temperatures will range between 12 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius.

The Counties Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo will receive rains over several places today and tomorrow morning.

Yesterday, the Water Resources Authority CEO Mohammed Shurie issued the Tana River Flood alert.

Shurie said Garissa was experiencing heavy rainfall and that all settlements close to Tana river are flooded and the river level was at 5m yesterday morning and had its banks burst.

"Move to higher ground. Comply for safety," Shurie said.

Temperatures in the five counties will be ranging between 17 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees Celsius.

"Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta will also be receiving morning rains until Wednesday," Aura said.

The temperatures in the five counties will range between 15  degrees Celsius and 31 degrees Celsius.

In the Counties of Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale, showers and thunderstorms will be experienced over a few places.

The temperatures will range between 25 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Celsius.
