The Kirinyaga county government has been recognized by the Kenya Revenue Authority as the best in tax compliance among the 41 devolved administrations.

KRA Central region coordinator Tobias Konyango commended Governor Anne Waiguru for ensuring that the county fully complied with tax regulations.

Konyango spoke at Governor Waiguru’s office in Kutus on Thursday.

He urged other counties and public entities to emulate Kirinyaga, adding that it was important for counties to collect and account for all the money since the government depended on taxes to build the nation.

The coordinator said KRA was available to assist any entity that could be encountering issues on tax compliance.

Governor Waiguru said it was a great honour for Kirinyaga to be ranked number one, saying that it came as a result of consistent commitment to the required standards.

She acknowledged that it was not an easy task but her team had worked hard to ensure compliance.

“We are happy to be a shining example for the rest of the counties and I want to thank my team for delivering these results,” she said.

The governor noted that her team would be partnering with KRA to increase revenue collection. Her county was committed to maintaining a clean financial record, she said.

KRA has managed to reduce the cost of revenue collection to one per cent compared to an average 20-30 per cent in many government institutions.
