Police have busted an electronic devises syndicate in Nairobi and recovered 262 mobile phones, computers and accessories.

Seven suspects were arrested in swoops conducted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Kayole and Central Business District on Saturday.

The swoops were led by Kayole and Kamkunji police stations bosses Wilson Kosgei and Stanley Atavachi respectively.

Atavachi said separately that they recovered 154 mobile phones, two laptops and one tablet from accessories shops on Mfangano and Ronald Ngala streets.

The seven suspects were seized during the  Saturday evening operation, Atavachi told the press in his office on Sunday.

He identified them as John Njenga, Noah Wanyoike, Brian Ojiambo, Zablon Gathambi, Lawrence Baraka, Brown Okutoi and Simon Mwangi.

The will be prosecuted today (Monday).

Atavachi commended the public for the tipoff to the police.

Police recovered 108 assorted and expensive smartphones and a laptop alongside two other electronic gadgets used to flush out phones memories in Kayole.

Kosgei described the recovery as a "major breakthrough in mobile phones theft crackdown".

The items were recovered at a shop selling second-hand phones.

The phones flush out equipment makes it difficult to track stolen phones.

The shop’s owner escaped arrest.

“Our detectives had followed signals from a mobile phone which had been stolen before it was interfered with. The signals led them to the shop,” Kosgei said, adding that most of the recovered items had been stolen at gunpoint.

The police bosses called on those who had lost the phones and laptops in Kayole and the Central Business District to visit respective police stations to identify their properties.
