KRA has intercepted two concealed high-end vehicles which are believed to have been stolen from the United Kingdom.

In a statement on Friday, KRA said the Range Rover Sport and a BMW X5 were imported through the Port of Mombasa.

They were sealed in a 40-foot container on February 19, 2019 aboard MV, Maersk Brooklyn, which was from the UK.

This was after they received intelligent reports of the suspected stolen vehicles.

KRA Customs officer Kelvin Safari said Import documents indicated that the container was carrying one Mercedes Benz A180 and a BMW 125I Sport.

"...but upon scanning, a used Range Rover Sport HSE SDV6 and used BMW X5 were found inside the container,"Safari said.

Safari said the exporter was Kola Solomon from London, UK and the Consignee was listed as Namanya Alex of Kampala, Uganda.

He noted that the authority is working with other local and International Investigation and Enforcement agencies with the aim of arresting and prosecuting those behind this international vehicle smuggling syndicate.

Last month, KRA said it will impound cars with foreign number plates and those without a valid permit.

The move was meant to tighten border controls and stop entry of illegal goods. KRA said that the application for the foreign permit will be done at entry points.
