A lobby group in Kakamega has threatened to seek a court injunction to stop NASA's People’'s Assembly motion from being tabled at the county assembly.

'Bunge la Haki, Usawa na Maendeleo' says the Opposition's move is unlawful as residents were not invited to give their views.

Chairman Boniface Manda noted

on Sunday

that public participation is a right guaranteed in the constitution.

"If our county assembly wants to pass any motion, it must follow the law and allow the people to have a say."

Manda added that not even civil society groups were consulted.

"The motion should be given to the public so they can read and understand its effects before it it taken to the floor of the assembly."

The motion is slated for debate on Tuesday.

"We are going to camp at the assembly on Tuesday and if our grievances are not heard we will move directly to court," Manda said.

Group secretary general Musa Ekaya said the motion should be taken back to the people and their opinions sought.

"If they want the People's Assembly let them come back home so we can elect new people to take up their positions," he added.

The lobby group added that the National Assembly and Senate should not interfere with county assembly operations.

NASA brigade led by Siaya Senator James Orengo camped at Kakamega and Vihiga assemblies last Thursday to oversee the passing of the motion.

Orengo was with Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala and former Senators Johnson Muthama (Machakos) and Boni Khalwale (Kakamega)

Siaya, Homa Bay and Vihiga are among counties that have passed the motion.

NASA leader

Raila Odinga has called for an interim government for 60 days before a fresh presidential election takes place.

Among his strategies and the people's assemblies and a boycott of products by Safaricom, Bidco and Brookside Dairies.
