Nyeri MCAs okay 65-year-old as youth representative

Nyeri MCAs have okayed the appointment of a 65-year-old to represent youths in the cabinet.

Sheila Githaiga has been nominated as CEC for Youths, Sports and Social Services.

Despite opposition from younger members of the County Assembly, her nomination was approved during a special sitting on Monday.

Konyu MCA Eric Mwangi opposed Githaiga's inclusion, arguing that a more youthful person who can represent them well.

But Chinga MCA Kiruga Thuku said many leaders, including former President Mwai Kibaki, former South African President Nelson Mandela and US President Donald Trump ascended to power while over 60 years of age.

Thuku said Githaiga should be given a chance.

Gakawa MCA Amos Kanyai said Githaiga has a lot of exposure and will bring change to the county.

Mwigoyo MCA Michael Karumba said the cabinet should have young and old people as the mixture "can be a wonderful combination".

Githaiga and nine other nominees to the county cabinet are expected to be worn in anytime after the Assembly adopts the appointments report.
