Police have denied claims

they intend to plant illegal weapons in one of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho's houses.

It had been alleged they would do this as part of operations against

financiers of the National Super Alliance.

The claims arose after police raided a Malindi home suspected to belong to businessman Jimmy Wanjigi. They found five AK 47 rifles and 93 bullets.

They are searching for the billionaire and have turned his Muthaiga home upside down to see if there are guns and explosives.

Coast regional police commander Larry Kieng has also dismissed social media reports that a multi-agency team raided a house owned by Joho’s brother Abubakar Joho.

Reports indicated officers raided the house in Nyali on Monday night with the aim of arresting the man.

Kieng said on Tuesday that the allegation by Suna East MP Junet Mohamed was unfounded and aimed at inciting unnecessary political tension.

"We have credible information that the government is trying hard to plant illegal weapons in one of Governor Joho's houses," Junet tweeted.

Speaking to The Star on Tuesday, Joho’s family lawyer Dennis Mosota said the workers at one of their residences raised the alarm after they spotted suspicious vehicles outside the compound.

"The workers panicked when they spotted vehicles near the compound but there was no raid at any houses within Nyali suburb on Monday night," said Mosota.

In January, Joho rejected five AP officers deployed to guard him and his residence, claiming they were sent to spy on him and plant firearms.

The ODM Governor has distinguished himself as Jubilee's most ardent critic since last year.

They also claimed

the cache of firearms was planted.

Sources say police will raid another home believed to be Wanjigi's in Nyali today.

The businessman is said to be NASA's key financier. He played a key role in campaigns as the funds mobiliser and strategist after falling out with Jubilee which he supported in 2013.
