Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has urged the city residents to reelect him, calling his opponents "hyenas wearing sheep's wool."

The governor said his leadership has been 'tested and proven' asking residents to be careful with "people pretending to be reformers."

"A hyena is a hyena, whether it is under the bed, under the table or even if it puts on sheep’s wool," the governor said in Eastleigh on Wednesday.

Kidero is facing off Jubilee Party's Senator Mike Sonko during the August 8 polls.

Sonko is vying for the seat with Vivo MD Polycarp Igathe as his running mate.

The race has also attracted Independent candidates Miguna Miguna and Peter Kenneth.

The city boss took a swipe at the Sonko-Igathe pair, calling it "a clueless and confused partnership that is doomed to fail."

The governor, who met Eastleigh business leaders, warned the traders against electing people with "goon-like" character.

Sonko, after winning the Jubilee ticket, said he is reformed and will not don clothes, jewels that made him branded negatively.

But Kidero urged the business leaders to elect people who will not adversely affect their trade.

"Eastleigh is the second business hub in Nairobi after the CBD. It contributes greatly to our GDP. That is why we must protect it."

"We have done roads and installed streetlights. Our aim is to boost security to create a 24-hour business environment," he said.

The business owners, through Chairman Ibrahim Hussein, pledged to support the governor during the poll.

"You are a person who we can trust. We have seen your leadership and we do not want to gamble," Hussein said.

The chairman crowned Kidero as an elder of the Somali community, a sign of commitment to their pledge.

Deputy Governor Jonathan Mueke, ODM Senator aspirant Edwin Sifuna, Woman representative hopeful Esther Passaris and Nairobi ODM chairman George Aladwa were present.

Mueke told the residents to vote wisely adding that they stand to suffer for years if they gamble at the ballot.

"You can all see what we have done. Roads are here. Streets are paved. We cannot see any garbage here," he said.

Sifuna told the resident to vote in NASA candidates in the election adding it is the only outfit that will bring to an end all the problems in the city.
