Two suspected thugs shot dead in Eldoret, youths protest

Youths in Eldoret protested on Wednesday against

the killing of two people whom police claimed were suspected thugs.

They barricaded roads using rocks, burned tyres and chanted songs against the police over the killings

at Bacon area.

The youths insited the men were innocent but

security officials said they had attempted to steal from a club after attacking guards.

"The two men were in a group that attempted to raid a night club on Tuesday," Uasin Gishu county commissioner Abdi Hassan

said on Wednesday.

"We had no alternative but to shoot them as they were becoming unruly."

The police boss said they were looking for other suspects they believe escaped. He said they had raided one of their homes.

Four

suspected robbers - armed with pistols - were at City Cabanas on Mombasa road, Nairobi, and

24 bullets ecovered.

Police said the four were believed to be criminals who killed Nairobi based businessman Paul Ngigi at his Kikuyu home in March.
