Embu elders have expressed disappointment with President Uhuru Kenyatta for not visiting the county for almost two years, despite voting for him overwhelmingly.

The President last visited the county on December 7, 2014, when he attended the ordination of Anglican Church of Kenya Diocese’s Bishop David Muriithi.

Since then, several visits have been organised then cancelled.

The latest was the August 6 visit when he was supposed to preside over a funds drive for Kangaru School.

More than 2,000 Mbeere, Embu and Kamba elders were hosted by Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti at his Kanyuambora home in Mbeere North.

They said they are worried the President had taken too long to visit them while he had visited other counties.

The elders urged Kivuti to ask the Head of State to visit.

Kivuti had hosted the elders to deliberate on how they should register members into the yet-to-be-launched Jubilee Party and also campaign for Uhuru and Deputy President William Ruto's re-election.

The senator said he has already talked with the President and preparations for his visit have begun.

Kivuti said he and other leaders are deliberating on a number of projects the President would come to launch.

“I’ve talked with the President over his coming but there are some small issues he was waiting to be handled. You know the head of state cannot just come to be seen and if he comes he must visit some projects,” he said

Kivuti said there are several ongoing and planned state-funded projects in the county which the President can visit.

These include the planned tarmacking of a 100km ring road linking the four constituencies in the county, he said.

Four major dams will also be constructed, Kivuti added.

During the meeting the elders promised to each register 100 members for the new party and popularise it.

They said they will go house-to-house to campaign for re-election of the president in the next general election.
