Chaos are looming in ACK St Francis, Oljororok, in Nyahururu as Bishop Stephen Kabora excommunicated six church elders.

Speaking to the Star at Ol Kalou yesterday, three elders who sought anonymity said Kabora and the clergy met in Nyahururu on Tuesday, where the decision was reached. “But the other church members plan to protest this move at any cost,” they said.

The elders said the bishop is on a revenge mission over a grudge that dates back to 1998 when he was the Vicar of Oljororok parish.

He differed with one elder who told him a woman was performing rituals in the church compound at night. Twenty three families, who constitute the founding members of ACK St Francis supported the elder.

Since then, Kabora has not been in good terms with the elders. The elders said after Kabora became a Bishop, he posted the Rev Gladwel Wambui to be the Vicar of Oljororok. Since her posting in January 2005, they said, she has been talking ill of the church and constantly refers to the 1998 incident between the Bishop and the elders.

They accused her of using very “unchristian language before the congregation, cursing and invoking the name of the Bishop even on very pretty issues”.

The church management committee wrote to Kabora, and later to the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya, to seek solution. But this resulted to dissolving of the local church committee by Kabora, and appointment of three women by Wambuis to run the affairs of the church. The congregation has protested in several occasions, resulting in the Bishop singling out the six elders for excommunication.

“The bishop seems determined to ensure the church is completely ruined in an effort to revenge against one elder. All those who stand by this elder have become casualties as well,” one elder told the Star.
