One of Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko’s bodyguards was on Saturday night shot dead and his loaded pistol stolen.
Bakari Tsuma, 38, was returning to his house in Linet Estate, Kasarani, after having dinner with his wife when the assailants accosted them.
The attackers shot him in the face and fled with his weapon.
His wife raised alarm and got assistance to take Tsuma to Nairobi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Speaking to the press after receiving the news, the Nairobi Senator mourned Tsuma and urged police to investigate the incident speedily.
“It is a major blow to my security team, his family and the entire police force,” Sonko said.
“I urge top police officers to immediately conduct the investigations, bring those involved to book and recover the stolen pistol.”
The officer, who was one of several armed guards attached to Sonko’s security detail, will be laid to rest tomorrow at his home in Golini area, Kwale county.
