Mwingi West constituency MP Bennered Kitungi has given Migwani police three days to reveal where they took a taxi driver.

Simon Mutisya disappeared at the hands of police several days after they arrested him.

“He was arrested by police after he failed to give them a Sh500 bribe even after he pleaded that he had no money. Since then he hasn’t been seen and this has raised alot of concern by the family and the entire constituency,” Kitungi said.

He was speaking on Saturday at a peaceful demonstration in Migwani against harassment of motorists by traffic officers.

Migwani police boss Julius Muu asked officers to stop harassing motorists and collecting Sh500 from every driver every day.

He said no law permits the officers to collect such money from drivers.

“If I get anyone collecting the bribe, be sure whoever is bribing and those being bribed will face the law. I’m wondering where the officers take the money to because I do not even see it and I don’t know what it is used for,” Muu said.

The motorists said they have had enough of the harassment.

They alleged the OCS hides his car in the bush, where he keeps the money he collects.

The motorists said the OCS has never been spotted with a government vehicle and he stays in the bushes most of the time.

“We pay Sh500 daily and when you fail to pay you are in for it. The motorbikes are charged Sh100. Do we work for the greedy traffic officers or our families?” said a motorist, who did not want to be named.

“They don’t care about traffic rules, even if you drive your taxi without windows and doors.”
