Kuresoi South MP Zakayo Cheruiyot yesterday accused the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission of witch-hunting after officers raided his Nairobi residence.

“I don’t know what they are investigating because I have been in court for the last 15 years. I don’t know if they are just flexing muscles,” the legislator said.

Cheruiyot told journalists yesterday morning that four EACC detectives visited his Lavington home accompanied by two armed police officers.

He said the detectives produced a search warrant to examine documents related to the house ownership. Cheruiyot talked to his lawyer, who asked him to let the detectives conduct the search.

He said the team was led by three men identified only as Rukaria, Ndiema and Kemei.

“They came to my house with a search warrant and I complied. I don’t know what they are investigating,” Cheruiyot said.

He said the EACC officers demanded to see documents showing how he had acquired the house, which they verified before they left.

The EACC detectives are investigating the Anglo-Leasing contract.

They have arraigned several people in court including Deepak Kamani, Chamanlal Kamani, Rashmi Kamani, Kisii Senator Chris Obure, former Postmaster General Francis Chahonyo.

Others are former PSs Sammy Kyungu (Communication), Joseph Magari (Treasury), Dave Mwangi (Internal Security), former Head of Treasury debt management David Onyonka and former Finance secretary Samuel Bundotich.
