International defender James Situma is on a collision course with his club AFC Leopards after revealing that he has set his sights on a move to Kenya Premier League rivals Tukser.
Situma, who joined Leopards last year claiming he had fulfilled his childhood dream, disclosed that Tusker have approach him to switch allegiance to the brewers but talks have not been smooth as Leopards have maintained they still need his services.
“Tusker approached me at the end of the season and I told them I still had six months to run my contract down with Ingwe. I told them I would be willing to move if my club sanctioned the transfer but communication broke down hence my decision to make the move happen,” said Situma.
The former Sofapaka captain denied that he was leaving Leopards at their hour of need, stating that he had shown his commitment in his twelve months stay at the den.
“I have been very dedicated to Leopards since I joined them. I have worked under three team managers and they will tell you I am the only player who never missed a training session and featured in almost all the matches. Even when I was injured, I made time to ensure I was at the training ground even just to watch my teammates,” he pointed out.
Leopards and other clubs facing player mutiny due to contractual issues received backing from Football Kenay Federation (FKF) who noted with deep concern the acrimonious movement of players during the current transfer window.
“As clubs seek to sign and release players, we regard this trend and other underhand tactics being employed by clubs as highly improper as taping of players is against the spirit of Fair Play,” opined a statement from FKF.
“The matter is further compounded by persons masquerading as players agents bent on reaping where they have not sown while taking undue advantage of the players concerned. These brokers are taking undue advantage of clubs facing financial crisis to induce players to switch clubs and will not be entertained by FKF,” added the statement.
FKF further stated that it is of paramount importance that players and clubs deal with the licensed and registered players’ agents and shun these quacks who are hellbent to reap profits.
“We implore on the clubs to show professionalism on matters of transfer of players and both parties advised to ensure they honour their contractual obligations.”
The federation added that it is their responsibility to ensure regulations regarding the players statutes and welfare are guarded in order to ensure ‘Fair Play’.
