Police on Thursday took over Nairobi streets ahead of the Finance Bill protest.

Many shops were closed and very few people were in town.

Trucks full of anti-riot officers were packed outside parliament buildings.

Parliament Road, and City Hall Way were barricaded while no motorists or pedestrians were allowed to use the routes.

No one, not even journalists was allowed to access Parliament Road.

"There is no road here. If you want to go to parliament, use Uhuru highway " a police officer told journalists at City Hall Way/Parliament Road roundabout

City Hall has been blocked at the Supreme Court roundabout.

Heavy police deployment GUS officers carrying rungus, tear gas canisters, and firearms are seen in the City.
