Leaders on Sunday attended interdenominational prayers at late Mama Mukami Kimathi's home in Njabini, Nyandarua County.

The leaders led by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said the prayers were held to celebrate her long and productive life as freedom heroine.

"Even as we mourn the passing on of freedom heroine Field Marshal Mukami Kimathi, it is in order to celebrate her long and productive life," Gachagua said in a statement. 

The DP said the government, led by President William Ruto, will give Mukami a decent and dignified burial befitting her status and contribution to the liberation of our country.

"We affirm that we will stand with the family of our departed Field Marshal Mukami in her honour. It is the right thing to do," the DP added.

He further revealed that the government will help in building the Heroes of Faith (Njamba cia Witikio) which stands on land she donated in her memory.

Mukami died while receiving treatment at Nairobi hospital where she was rushed Thursday night with difficulties in breathing. She was 96. 

The late freedom fighter will be laid to rest at her family home in Njabini, Nyandarua County on Saturday, May 13.
