President William Ruto and First lady Mama Rachel Ruto on Friday hosted county first spouses at State House, Nairobi for breakfast.
Through a statement, the office of the First Lady said the meeting reinforced the important role of the governors' spouses in uplifting their communities.
"Adopt a forest in your respective counties as part of the First Lady's Office objective to plant 500 million trees & lead in promoting financial literacy among women in counties," Mama Rachel Ruto said.
During the meeting, Mama Rachel Ruto also proposed a food exchange program where first spouses from counties with food sufficiency would support their counterparts facing drought.
"Work together to come up with ways to support governors and their governments," she urged.
The President confirmed his commitment to work with all elected governors in Kenya and promised increased allocations for the Women Enterprise Fund and the National Government Affirmative Action Fund.
He said the application process for the funds will be digitized to ease access by all Kenyans.
