The Chairman of the National Task Force to oversee reforms at the National Police Service and Kenya Prisons Service David Maraga held a meeting with National Police Service Commission.

In a statement on Wednesday, Maraga said that they are committed to undertaking the roles of the taskforce.

"I assure NPS of the Task Force commitment to listen to the views of the commission and recognise the constitutional mandate on setting terms and conditions of service for Police Officers," he said.

Maraga was accompanied by vice chairperson Carole Kariuki.

On December 22, President William Ruto appointed a 22-member Taskforce led by Maraga to oversee police reforms.

Maraga is tasked to identify constraints in service delivery by prisons and police officers and recommend operational reforms in NPS and KPS. 

He will also be mandated to recommend improvement of terms, and conditions of service in the police, review matters relating to the welfare of officers and examine the uptake of previous taskforce recommendations.

The taskforce is expected to consider recommendations of SRC, NPSC, KNCHR, IPOA and assess the adequacy of the current medical scheme for NPS, KPS, including the recommendation of the standard of uniform for officers.
