President Wiliam Ruto has cleared the hospital bill of the widow of freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi.
Mama Mukami Kimathi was being held at a Nairobi hospital over Sh1 million bill that the family has been unable to foot.
Gachagua visited her at the hospital on Sunday evening soon after he arrived in Nairobi from Nyanza from where he had accompanied the president on a two-day working tour.
"This afternoon, I visited Mukami Kimathi, the wife of the late freedom fighter Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi, at Nairobi Hospital, " Gachagua said.
"H.E President William Ruto has cleared the Hospital Bill. Thank you, President William Ruto, for coming through for Mukami Kimathi and her family. You are a true and genuine friend of our people. Be blessed abundantly. Always," he added.
Mukami, 101, was admitted to Nairobi Hospital on January 5 with pneumonia symptoms and was treated and discharged on January 12.
The family, however, said Mukami has not been allowed to leave the facility until her bill is cleared.
Gachagua said he learnt of the predicament while in Nyanza.
He pledged to visit the ailing widow on his return to Nairobi and assess possible interventions to make her life more comfortable.
