The equipment was delivered through the National Equipment Service Program (NESP).

The Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) in Kisumu has become the latest facility to receive modern radiology equipment.

Cabinet Secretary for Health Aden Barre Duale officially launched the 128-slice Fuji FCT iStream CT Scanner and a Fuji Amulet Sophinity Digital Mammogram, both the latest machines in medical imaging technology.

The equipment was delivered through the National Equipment Service Program (NESP), a government initiative aimed at enhancing diagnostic capabilities and improving healthcare delivery across county hospitals.

This investment marks a significant step toward strengthening Kenya’s progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by providing equitable access to advanced, life-saving diagnostic services.

The Cabinet Secretary was accompanied by Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o, senior officials from the Ministry of Health, and Sunview Medipro International CEO Sirat Amin.

“The immense impact of this upgrade lies in its potential for early detection and prevention. The importance of early diagnosis, especially for conditions like cancer, cannot be overstated it literally saves lives and dramatically improves treatment outcomes,” said Prof Nyong’o.

“With these modern diagnostic tools now readily available at our upgraded facility, we can encourage more regular screenings and identify health issues at their earliest stages.”

The newly commissioned machines are expected to enhance patient care at JOOTRH, reduce the need for referrals outside the region, and support healthcare workers with better tools to deliver timely and accurate diagnoses.
