National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has called on women leaders in Bungoma County to spearhead President William Ruto's 2027 re-election campaign by mobilising eligible residents to acquire national identity cards and register as voters.
Speaking during a meeting with women leaders from Bungoma County's nine constituencies at the Mabanga Farmers Training Centre (FTC), Wetang'ula said grassroots mobilisation would be key to securing another term for the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Wetang'ula urged the women to take an active role in encouraging eligible Kenyans to obtain national identity cards and register as voters ahead of the 2027 General Election.
"I urged them to champion President William Ruto's re-election bid by mobilising eligible residents to acquire national identity cards and register as voters ahead of the 2027 General Election," Wetang'ula said.
The Speaker highlighted what he described as key achievements of the Kenya Kwanza administration, saying the government's development record should form the basis of its re-election campaign.
He cited the reduction of subsidised fertiliser prices from Sh7,500 to Sh2,500, the revival of Nzoia Sugar Company, ongoing road infrastructure projects, the construction of modern markets, the planned Level Six Teaching and Referral Hospital in Bungoma, the expansion of the Malaba-Eldoret Highway and the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) to Malaba through Mianga.
"These projects demonstrate President Ruto's commitment to transforming the Western region and improving livelihoods," Wetang'ula said.
He added that Bungoma County had benefited significantly from government investment under the current administration.
"Bungoma County has benefited from unprecedented government investment under his administration," he said.
The Speaker also appealed to women leaders to reject divisive politics and instead support the government's development agenda by serving as ambassadors of unity and civic participation.
"I also urged women to reject divisive politics, support the President's development agenda and serve as ambassadors by encouraging eligible Kenyans to obtain identity cards and register as voters," he said.
At the end of the meeting, the women leaders declared their support for President Ruto's bid for a second term in office through what was named the "Mabanga Declaration."
The declaration signals the beginning of grassroots political mobilisation in Bungoma County as Kenya's political landscape gradually shifts towards preparations for the 2027 General Election.
The meeting was attended by Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka, Members of Parliament John Chikati, John Makali, Martin Pepela and Fred Kapondi, Nominated Senator Consolata Nabwire Wakwabubi and Bungoma Woman Representative Catherine Wambilianga.
