Schools in Sabatia constituency, Vihiga County, have benefited from Sh250 million spent on infrastructure development over the past three years through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

The investment aims to transform learning institutions into modern facilities that provide a conducive environment for both learners and teachers.

Since taking office in September 2022, Sabatia MP Clement Sloya has spearheaded transformation in the education sector within the constituency.

He highlighted that the Sh250 million investment reflects his commitment to quality education and long-term development.

“The funds have been used for various infrastructure projects, including the construction of modern six-storey school buildings, Junior Secondary School (JSS) classrooms, new ablution blocks, and extensive renovation of existing classrooms,” Sloya said.

Sloya explained that the decision to build multi-storey structures was driven by limited land availability for school expansion, especially in densely populated areas.

He noted that these new buildings not only solve space constraints but also motivate students, thereby improving education standards.

During a recent inspection tour of ongoing projects, Sloya reiterated his vision of creating a conducive learning environment for every child in Sabatia, emphasising that the investment is more than just physical buildings—it is an investment in the constituency's future.

Modern ablution blocks have been established in several primary schools, including Ikobero Girls in Busali Ward, Lusengeli Primary in Wodanga Ward, Chavakali Primary in Chavakali Ward, Mulele Primary in West Sabatia Ward, Kigama Primary in North Maragoli Ward, and Ondeyo Primary in Izava/Lyaduywa Ward. These new facilities are expected to significantly improve hygiene standards and boost school attendance.

The renovation and new constructions have also benefitted a number of secondary schools such as Kivagala Primary in North Maragoli Ward, Havuyiya Primary in Chavakali Ward, Galoni Primary in West Sabatia Ward, Mwilitsa Primary in Busali Ward, Sabatia Primary in Wodanga Ward, Ondeyo Primary in Izava/Lyaduywa Ward, as well as Chandumba Secondary in West Sabatia Ward and Bugina Secondary in Busali Ward.

The six-storey school buildings address congestion and help maximize learning space, which is especially critical in urban and peri-urban zones of Sabatia.

In alignment with the government’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) rollout, the new JSS classrooms will facilitate smooth transitions and adequate accommodation for junior secondary learners.

School head teachers have praised the initiative for significantly improving student morale and staff motivation. One teacher, speaking anonymously, mentioned that enrollment numbers have increased and that the learning environment is now more dignified.

Community leaders and parents have also welcomed the projects, expressing optimism that improved infrastructure will lead to better academic performance and reduce student dropout rates.
