It was a day of celebration in Wenyila village, Misikhu Ward following the commissioning of Mumilo Water Spring — a project hailed as a game-changer in the fight against water scarcity in the region.

Residents turned out in large numbers to witness the launch of the spring, which is already supplying clean, safe water to dozens of households across Misikhu Ward.

The initiative is expected to drastically cut down the time spent searching for water, ease pressure on limited existing sources, and improve overall quality of life.

“Before, we would queue for hours, sometimes starting as early as 4 a.m. just to get a jerrycan of water,” said Mary Nafula, a mother of five from Wenyila.

“Now we can access clean water within minutes. Our children have more time for school, and we can focus on other economic activities.”

The water spring, constructed by the Joseph Lendrix Waswa Foundation, was welcomed with gratitude by local leaders and residents, who described it as a timely intervention in a region where access to water has long been a daily struggle.

“Waswa is a leader who listens and acts. This spring is evidence of what can be achieved when leaders prioritise people’s needs,” said Charles Barasa, a youth leader from Misikhu Ward.

“We now believe more in the power of community-driven development.”

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony held in nearby Sibembe village, philanthropist and foundation founder Joseph Waswa said the project was born out of a need to provide lasting solutions to long-standing water problems in the area.

"For a long time, our people have been struggling with access to safe and clean water. The Mumilo Water Spring is part of our broader mission to bring practical and lasting solutions to the community,” said Waswa.

“It is just the beginning. We are committed to doing more.”

Waswa also announced plans to construct a new classroom at Sibembe Primary School to help decongest the current learning environment and improve education outcomes.
