Church leaders from Bungoma County have thrown their weight behind philanthropist Joseph Lendrix Waswa, urging him to vie for the Webuye West parliamentary seat in 2027.
The endorsement came during a consultative breakfast meeting held at Parkvilla Hotel in Webuye town, bringing together clergy from various denominations to deliberate on matters of community development, clergy welfare, and the church's role in fostering social and spiritual progress.
Led by Bishop Patrick Wachie Khaemba of Glory Worship Centre, the religious leaders lauded Waswa for his unwavering dedication to the underprivileged and his efforts in promoting unity and youth empowerment through the Joseph Waswa Foundation.
“Waswa has a genuine heart for the people and the church,” said Bishop Wachie.
“His approach to leadership gives us hope that Webuye West can move forward spiritually, socially, and economically.”
Echoing similar sentiments, Bishop Michael Khumalo of Family Church in the T-junction area of Webuye town described Waswa as a purpose-driven leader.
"We need leaders who do not just occupy office, but who serve with purpose. Joseph Waswa is such a man,” Khumalo remarked, urging the faithful to rally behind candidates who uphold integrity and community values.
The bishops emphasised the need for political leaders who not only understand development but are also anchored in moral leadership.
They highlighted Waswa’s track record in philanthropy, cross-tribal unity, and youth empowerment across the four wards of Misikhu, Matulo, Sitikho, and Bokoli as a testament to his readiness for public office.
In his address, Waswa expressed deep appreciation for the clergy’s support and reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive and values-based development in the region.
“I am deeply humbled by the clergy’s support. I recognise the critical role the church plays in shaping our society,” said Waswa.
“I remain committed to supporting your efforts and ensuring that development in Webuye West is both inclusive and rooted in our shared values."
He further pledged to work hand in hand with faith-based institutions to address local challenges and strengthen community ties.
