Kyle Emuria, Isegere Toto School's second best student celebrates his results with school's deputy head teacher Purity Orono on Thursday

A school that supports orphans in Teso North, Busia has produced the county's top KCPE candidates.

Isegere Toto School, which had registered 31 candidates had a mean score of 341.42 marks.

Its top candidate, Scoviah Akotch scored 407 marks while the second best candidate, Kyle Emurua scored 405 marks. The least performing student scored 266 marks.

Emuria attributed his performance to hard work and belief in God.

“I am very happy to receive these results,” he said.

“It has not been easy but we have been working very hard in our preparation for exams since the beginning of the year.”

The school's patron, Teso North MP Oku Kaunya had registered 23 candidates who scored between 300 and 399 marks.

The school’s Deputy Head Teacher Purity Orono said they completed the syllabus early and had ample time to revise.

“We have received the results with happiness. I would like to thank all the teachers and parents for working towards these results,” she said.

“We left no stone unturned. Our strategy was to finish the syllabus on time and use the better part of third term to revise using KCPE past papers.”

Out of the 31 candidates the institution registered for the exams, 17 were boys and 14 were girls.

The school's director, Millicent Oku said the institution will continue to support orphaned but bright pupils.

“We are going to work on this to see how best the pupils will get their scholarship fees. We have sponsored them from class two to date. We will not give up on them now,” she said.

At neighbouring Machakus Junior Academy in Teso South subcounty, top candidate Gilbert Opeto scored 401 marks.

Opeta attributed his success to waking up early to revise and continuous prayers.

Just like Emuria, Opeto wants to be an engineer.

School head teacher Lucy Omunyin said cooperation between parents and teachers made the school post an impressive mean score of 350.

Director Annacet Oduor said the management will consider sponsoring bright students from humble backgrounds.

In 2022, the school had a mean score of 317 marks.
