Accuse their area assistant chief of slackening in his work

In Summary

• Mostly from Dago sub-location, the residents complained of break-ins into their houses by burglars at night.

• They cart away their households and livestock.

The residents of Kiboswa in Kisumu West subcounty have protested against an increase in burglary incidents in the area.

Mostly from Dago sub-location, the residents complained of break-ins into their houses by burglars at night. They cart away their households and livestock.

Florence Atieno Ataro recounted how the thieves raided her home on Monday night and escaped with her belongings, including 15 chickens.

Ataro said when she went to open the henhouse at dawn, she was confronted with empty space as all her chicken had been stolen by the thieves.

They also used a ladder to climb the top of her roof and stole her solar and gas cooker. They then ransacked her house and stole the radio and all the clothes and money.

She said that she lodged complaints with the police and was issued with an OB number. The police told her to report to them if she had any suspect in mind but no action has been taken.

Ataro appealed to the county government of Kisumu to stamp out the runaway theft in the Kiboswa area, saying they are now even fearful for their lives.

The residents are demanding that the county commissioner of Kisumu liaises with the area chief and institute night raids to tame the burglaries.

Resident Vicky Nyawar Ayoo lost 26 chickens to the thieves. He said he can no longer play his music system because that is one of the magnets that attract thieves.

The residents accused their area assistant chief of slackening in his work. They also blamed members of the provincial administration for failing to rein in the thieves.

The burglars also raided the nearby Power of Jesus Around the World Church and stole the windows. They then raided another chicken farmer's home and escaped with 18 of his birds.

Residents appealed to the Kisumu county commissioner to come to their aid.
