Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wamgamati has ordered for a forensic audit of all the staff of the county government to exorcise ghost workers.

He made the announcement during a meeting with businessmen and boda boda operators from the nine constituencies at Mabanga Farmers' Training Centre, Kabuchai, on Tuesday.

Wangamati said there will be no further appointments until the audit is completed.

"We must rationalise the employment in this county because there has been a lot of employment that was done prior to elections that has blotted the county’s payroll," he said.

After the audit a skills assessment will be carried out.

"As a county that needs to forge ahead we must manage our payroll effectively so that the money that is collected in revenue must be enough to go back help build markets and other things across the county," he said.
