Uasin Gishu county is distributing drugs worth Sh60 million
to hospitals in the region to ensure they are adequately stocked ahead of the
December festivities season.
Governor Jonathan Bii said his administration is commitment
to delivering quality healthcare after flagging off the first batch of medical
supplies worth Sh28 million which are being supplied to hospitals in the six
subcounties.
Speaking during the flag-off, Bii said the supplies would
ensure all high-volume health facilities remain well-stocked. He said demand
for medical services usually increases during the festive season hence the decision
to ensure all the 138 county hospitals are well stocked.
The governor further announced that a second consignment
worth Sh40 million is expected to arrive this week.
The consignments will be distributed to dispensaries and
health centres across the county, extending the benefits of the initiative to
grassroots.
Bii urged residents to remain vigilant and to make use of
the county’s healthcare services, especially during the ongoing season of rites
of passage.
“We urge our residents to promptly report any medical
complications during this season of rites of passage. A dedicated response team
has been established to provide timely care and prevent avoidable loss of life among
our young people,” he added.
The governor underscored his administration’s proactive
approach to strengthening the county’s healthcare delivery system, ensuring no
facility runs short of essential medical supplies when residents need them
most.
He said as the county braces for the holiday season, the
timely distribution of medicines and equipment marks a significant step towards
achieving accessible, reliable and quality healthcare for all.
County Executive Committee Member for Health Services Joseph
Lagat said the county was focused on improving healthcare efficiency and
ensuring essential medicines and commodities reach all service points.
“We are strengthening supply chains and monitoring systems
to make sure every facility is equipped and no ward goes without essential
drugs,” Lagat said.
Chief Officer for Promotive and Preventive Health Dr Paul
Wangwe commended healthcare workers for their dedication and urged continued
collaboration between the public and the health department to uphold the highest
standards of care.
“The cooperation between our teams and the community remains
key in sustaining effective healthcare delivery,” he said.
He said the distribution of medical supplies reflects
Governor Bii’s ongoing commitment to improving healthcare access and
preparedness as the county enters the festive season.
“We will ensure no patient is left unattended and every
facility remains ready to serve throughout the festivities,” Dr Wangwe said.
