Tiaty Member of Parliament, William Kamket, has today been released from the Nakuru Central Police Station where he spent Wednesday night.

The MP was arrested by officers from Rift Valley Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters in Nakuru for unclear reasons and held for a night.

When he was released earlier Thursday, Kamket claimed that he was told that his arrest was due to a statement he made last year, about seven months ago.

Addressing the media at the police station, the lawmaker said it was not clear what crime he had committed.

“I do not know what crime I have committed and I wonder why I have become the poster boy for arrest for the State in successive administrations,” he said.

He lamented that anytime the government felt like arresting a legislator, it always sent officers to apprehend him.

Kamket said he was released on a free bond with a condition to report at the regional headquarters in Nakuru City after two weeks.

The MP has been the subject of arrests and summons to record statements for close to a decade with most of those cases being related to the insecurity in North Rift which extends to Turkana, Elgeyo Marakwet, Laikipia, Baringo, West Pokot and parts of Samburu.

North Rift is affected by many cases of banditry attacks, cattle rustling and inter-ethnic clashes that have caused displacements, loss of livestock, high poverty levels and school drop-outs among the children.

The region has lagged in terms of infrastructural and social development due to insecurity.
